Wherever a shaft or rod moves axially, such as a piston rod, the requirement is the same as for a rotating shaft: two spaces have to be separated without the medium escaping. Our non-contacting seals are designed for both types of movement.
What is an axial shaft seal?
An axial shaft seal seals a shaft or rod that does not rotate but moves axially, that is, in a translatory or reciprocating motion. A typical example is the piston rod. The sealing principle stays the same, only the direction of movement is different.
Non-contacting, even with axial movement
Our shaft seals of types AD 200, AK 300 and AD 500 are designed for both rotating and axial movement. They seal via a defined gap, without contact between shaft and housing. That means low wear, no frictional heat and long service life, regardless of whether the shaft rotates or moves axially. The radially movable arrangement compensates for displacement and installation tolerances.
